EARLY DETECTION SAVES LIVES

The American Urological Association recommends prostate cancer screening beginning at age 40 for higher-risk patients, and the use of MRI-guided biopsies for select initial biopsy and repeat procedures.¹

Testing is especially important for men with a history of prostate cancer or other risk factors.

How Do You Know If You’re High Risk?

If you meet any of the following, take the first step by asking your doctor for a blood test for Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA):

Over age 55
Family history of prostate or other cancers
Inherited gene mutations such as Lynch Syndrome or BRCA

African American descent
Changes in urination (e.g., pain, frequency)
Blood in urine or semen

Understanding Prostate Screening and Prostate Fusion Biopsy

Early detection begins with screening, beginning with a PSA test, and may include imaging and biopsy.

PSA Testing

Your PSA test results may appear higher than normal. This can be caused by multiple factors, including infection, medications, and activity. Your doctor will talk with you about the next steps.

Imaging

To help determine if additional testing or a biopsy is needed, your doctor may order an MRI or other form of imaging.

Biopsy

A biopsy is the only definitive way to check for prostate cancer. Our providers offer prostate MRI-ultrasound fusion biopsy using UC-CARE’s Navigo 4D Fusion Navigation System to ensure early and accurate cancer detection.

Treatment

Early detection yields multiple treatment options; and some cancers may not require treatment at all. Your doctor will discuss all options with you.
